  • And more!

We’ve also included some of our best baggage tips to make your trip as smooth as possible.

Carry On Policy

Breeze Airways has 3 types of fares available:

  • Nice
  • Nicer
  • Nicest.

All Breeze Airways fares include 1 personal item. However, a carry-on bag is only free with Nicer and Nicest fares. If you buy a Nice fare, you will need to pay a fee for a carry-on bag.

The table below summarizes your carry-on allowance, based on the type of ticket you buy:

Nicer1 (free)1 (free)

Let’s look at carry-on bags and personal items in more detail.

Carry On Bag

You can bring one carry-on bag on board, but it may not be included in your fare. A carry-on bag is included with nicer and nicest fares, and available for purchase with Nice fares.

Carry On Bag Size

Your carry-on bag must be no larger than 22 x 14 x 9 inches (56 x 36 x 23 centimeters). It must fit in the overhead bin or under the seat in front of you.

Some examples of typical carry-on bags are:

  • Small suitcase
  • Backpack
  • Duffel bag
  • Garment bag

If your carry-on bag is larger than the limit, you may have to check it and pay a baggage fee.

Hot Tip: If the overhead bins are full, you may have to check your bag at the gate. To avoid any last-minute hassle, pack your important documents, valuables, fragile items, and medications in your personal item. This way, you can keep them with you.

Carry On Bag Weight

Your carry-on bag can weigh up to 35 pounds (16 kilograms). You should be able to lift it into the overhead bin by yourself. If your carry-on bag is heavier than 35 pounds, you may have to check it and pay a baggage fee.

Hot Tip: Pack your heaviest items in your personal item to make sure your carry-on bag isn’t overweight. This will also make it easier to lift into the overhead bin.

Carry On Bag Fee

If you bought a Nice fare and want to add a carry-on bag, you’ll have to pay a fee.

If you pay for your bag at least 4 hours before your flight’s departure, you will be charged a lower fee.

Breeze Airways determines baggage fees based on your itinerary, dates of travel, and time of booking.

After testing Breeze Airways’ baggage calculator with different itineraries and dates, the carry-on bag fee ranged from $35 to $37.

When planning your Breeze Airways flight, I recommend that you use the airline’s baggage calculator tool for your specific itinerary, for current pricing.

You can pay for your carry-on bag in a few ways:

If you pay for your bag within 4 hours of your flight or at the airport, the carry-on bag fee will be $50.

Personal Item

All Breeze Airways fares include 1 personal item.

Personal Item Size

Your personal item must be no larger than 17 x 13 x 8 inches (43 x 33 x 20 centimeters). It must be able to fit under the seat in front of you.

Some examples of typical personal items are:

  • Handbag
  • Laptop bag
  • Small backpack
  • Briefcase

If your personal item exceeds the above size limit, you may have to check it into the plane’s hold and pay a baggage fee.

Important: Breeze Airways’ size limit for personal items is slightly smaller than what Spirit and Frontier Airlines allows. These airlines have a personal item size limit of 18 x 14 x 8 inches.

Before arriving at the airport, make sure to carefully measure your personal item. If it exceeds Breeze Airways’ size limit, you may have to pay a bag fee and/or check the item.

Personal Item Weight

Breeze Airways doesn’t state a weight limit for personal items. However, it’s important to make sure that the item isn’t overpacked to the point where it becomes stretched and exceeds the size limit for personal items.

Personal Item Fee

Breeze Airways includes a personal item with all its fares, so there is no separate fee. As already mentioned, if the item is oversized, you may have to pay a baggage fee.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Checked Baggage Allowance

The checked baggage allowance for Breeze Airways depends on the type of fare you bought. Nice fares do not include any checked baggage, but you can buy them separately for a fee. Nicer fares include 1 checked bag, while Nicest fares include 2.

Checked Bag Size Limit

Your checked bag can be up to 62 linear inches (157 centimeters) in size. This measurement includes the outside length, width, and height of the bag, plus any protruding wheels, handles, and pockets.

If your checked bag is larger than 62 linear inches, it will be subject to an oversized baggage fee.

Please note that Breeze Airways doesn’t accept checked baggage larger than 80 linear inches (203 centimeters).

Checked Bag Weight Limit

Your checked bag can weigh up to 50 pounds (23 kilograms). If it exceeds this weight, your bag will be subject to an overweight baggage fee.

Breeze Airways doesn’t accept checked baggage heavier than 99 pounds (45 kilograms).

Baggage Fees

In this section, we’ll explain how much you should expect to pay if you plan to purchase checked baggage. Also, we’ll show what you’ll pay if your checked bags are oversized or overweight.

It’s important to note that more than one fee can apply per bag. For example, if you buy a checked bag and it ends up being oversized and overweight, the following fees will apply:

Checked bag fee + oversized fee + overweight fee.

Extra Bags

If you wish to add checked baggage to your booking, you can pre-purchase up to 3 bags. If you need more checked baggage, you can buy more baggage at the airport when you check in. However, each passenger is limited to a maximum of 5 checked bags.

As with carry-on bags, prepaying for your checked baggage can save you some money. The fee that you will have to pay depends on your itinerary, dates of travel, and time of booking.

After testing Breeze Airways’ baggage calculator with multiple itineraries and dates, there wasn’t much discrepancy with the baggage pricing:

Online Baggage FeeAirport Baggage Fee
1st Bag$39 to $41$50
2nd Bag$40$50
3rd Bag$50$50
4th Bagn/a$50
5th Bagn/a$50
Extra Baggage Fees

For current pricing, I strongly recommend that you use Breeze Airways’ baggage calculator for your specific itinerary.

If you pay for your checked bags at the airport, you will have to pay $50 for each bag.

Hot Tip: If you plan to travel with at least 3 checked bags, you may want to consider waiting until you arrive at the airport, as the baggage fee will be the same. Your travel circumstances may change, or you may be able to use a travel companion’s spare luggage space for your belongings.

Breeze Airways does allow you to remove purchased baggage from your booking up to 24 hours prior to your booking. However, the refund is in the form of Breeze Points. These points are redeemable only for Breeze Airways products and services.

If your checked bag is larger than 62 linear inches, it will be subject to an oversized baggage fee.

For bags between 63 and 80 linear inches (160 and 203 centimeters), you will be charged $50. This fee is in addition to any other applicable fees for your bag.

The oversized baggage fee can only be paid when you arrive at the airport.

Breeze Airways does not accept checked baggage larger than 80 linear inches.

Overweight Baggage Fee

If your bag weighs more than 50 pounds (23 kilograms), it will be subject to an overweight baggage fee:

  • For bags weighing between 51 and 70 pounds (23 and 32 kilograms), you will be charged $20.
  • For bags weighing between 71 and 99 pounds (32 and 45 kilograms), you will be charged $50 instead.

These overweight baggage fees aren’t cumulative. For example, if your checked bag weighs 80 pounds, only the $50 fee applies.

Overweight baggage fees can only be paid when you arrive at the airport.

Breeze Airways does not accept checked baggage heavier than 99 pounds.

Special Baggage

Breeze Airways allows you to travel with items that require special handling or have different size and weight limits than regular baggage. The two most common types of special baggage that airlines accept are:

  • Sports equipment
  • Musical instruments

It’s strongly recommended that you pack your special baggage in suitable and protective (preferably hard-sided) cases. Breeze Airways may refuse to accept any items that aren’t appropriately packed.

Sports Equipment

Breeze Airways allows you to check in various types of sports equipment.

Most items follow the standard checked baggage rules and fees, but some items have exceptions.

You also need to sign a liability release form for any sports equipment you check in. This essentially means that Breeze Airways is not responsible for any damage that may happen to your equipment.

You should pack your equipment in a protective, hard-sided case to prevent any damage. Breeze Airways may refuse to check in sports equipment that is not packed properly.

Allowed Sports Equipment

Breeze Airways accepts the following types of sports equipment:

  • Archery equipment
  • Baseball equipment
  • Bicycles
  • Bodyboards: oversized bodyboards not accepted.
  • Boogie boards: oversized boogie boards not accepted.
  • Bowling equipment
  • Camping equipment
  • Fishing equipment
  • Football equipment
  • Golf equipment: no oversized baggage fees.
  • Hiking equipment
  • Hockey equipment: no oversized baggage fees.
  • Paddleboards (inflatable): must be deflated to be accepted.
  • Kitesurfing boards: oversized kitesurfing boards not accepted.
  • Lacrosse equipment: no oversized baggage fees.
  • Longboards
  • Martial arts equipment
  • Paintball equipment: compressed gas cylinders not accepted.
  • Parachute
  • Pool cues
  • Scuba equipment: scuba tanks not accepted.
  • Skateboards
  • Skates
  • Ski equipment: no oversized baggage fees.
  • Skimboards; oversized skimboards not accepted.
  • Snowboard equipment: no oversized baggage fees.
  • Tennis equipment
  • Trekking equipment
  • Wakeboards: oversized wakeboards not accepted.
  • Water ski equipment

Prohibited Sports Equipment

Breeze Airways doesn’t accept the following types of sports equipment:

  • Boats
  • Camping stoves
  • Canoes
  • Compressed gas cylinders
  • Electric skateboards
  • Hoverboards
  • Javelin equipment
  • Kayaks
  • Onewheels
  • Paddleboards (non-inflatable)
  • Pole vaulting equipment
  • Scooters
  • Scuba tanks
  • Sculls
  • Segways
  • Surfboards
  • Windsurfing equipment

Musical Instruments

Breeze Airways considers all musical instruments as fragile items. If you check in your instrument, you have to sign a limited liability release form. This means that Breeze Airways is not responsible for any damage that may happen to your instrument during transit.

It’s strongly recommended that you pack your musical instrument in a suitable and protective hard-sided case.

You can bring your musical instrument as carry-on baggage or checked baggage, depending on its size.

Musical Instruments in Carry On Baggage

If your musical instrument is within the carry-on baggage size limits, you can bring it on board in place of your personal item or carry-on bag.

Musical Instruments in a Seat

If your musical instrument exceeds the checked baggage size and weight limits, you can buy a seat for it in the cabin.

Musical Instruments as Checked Baggage

Musical instruments follow the same rules and fees as standard checked baggage. However, there is one exception: Breeze Airways accepts musical instruments up to 150 linear inches (381 centimeters) in size.

Baggage Exclusions and Waivers

Breeze Airways offers some exclusions and waivers for baggage fees for certain passengers and items:

  • Active-duty U.S. military personnel can travel with two checked bags and one carry-on bag for free. They must show their military ID at check-in.
  • One stroller and one car seat can be checked for free at the check-in desk or gate.
  • Some sports equipment is exempt from oversized baggage fees.

Checking Your Bags at the Airport

Airways accepts checked baggage at the airport counter up to 2 hours before your flight’s scheduled departure. The airline will not accept checked bags later than 45 minutes before your flight.

Breeze Airways doesn’t offer kiosk check-in. You have to go to the airport counter to check in and drop off your bags.

Final Thoughts

Breeze Airways has a straightforward baggage policy.

There are three types of fares available, each with its own baggage allowances:

  • Nice: 1 personal item only
  • Nicer: 1 personal item, 1 carry-on bag, 1 checked bag
  • Nicest: 1 personal item, 1 carry-on bag, 2 checked bags

Although I’m not a fan of using baggage calculators, there didn’t seem to be much fluctuation in baggage prices for different itineraries. This makes it easier to plan and budget for your trip.

However, if you want to travel with multiple pieces of luggage, you may want to look elsewhere. You’re limited to 5 pieces of baggage, which may not be enough for some travelers.

Also, take care when measuring your personal item. Breeze Airways’ size limit is slightly smaller than Spirit and Frontier Airlines, so your perfectly sized bag for these airlines may not be suitable for your Breeze Airways flight. The airline doesn’t have a reputation for being strict with its policing of carry-on baggage, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Finally, it’s great to see that Breeze Airways’ standard weight limit for checked baggage is 50 pounds. This is unusual for an ultra-low-cost airline – Spirit and Frontier impose a weight limit of only 40 pounds. Allegiant Air increased their limit from 40 to 50 pounds earlier this year – hopefully the other airlines will follow suit.

Remember to always check Breeze Airways’ website or contact their customer service for the latest information on baggage allowances and fees.

Have a wonderful flight!
