Your carry-on bag must be able to fit in the overhead bins.

Checked Baggage Allowance

Allegiant Air allows active-duty military personnel to check two free bags, regardless of the route or fare bought.

How Many Bags Can You Take?

All Allegiant passengers are allowed to travel with five checked bags in total. The first four can be bought online, with the fifth having to be purchased at the airport.

If you decide to travel with more than your two free checked bags, any extra bags will be subject to the standard checked bag allowances and fees.

Checked Baggage Size Limit

Each of your two free checked bags can be no larger than 115 linear inches (292.10 centimeters). This is calculated by measuring the outside height, width, and length of your bag. Totaling these measurements will give you your bag’s linear size. Make sure that you include any protruding wheels, handles, or straps in your measurements.

Allegiant Air does not apply oversize checked bag fees for military personnel.

Please note that Allegiant will not accept checked bags larger than 115 linear inches.

Checked Baggage Weight Limit

Each of your two free checked bags can weigh up to 100 pounds (45 kilograms) each.

Please note that Allegiant will not accept checked bags heavier than 100 pounds.

Extra Checked Baggage Allowances and Fees

Extra Checked Bag Fees

Oversized Bag Fee

If you wish to check a bag larger than 80 linear inches, Allegiant will apply a $75 oversized bag fee. This fee is in addition to any other fees applied to your bag.

Overweight Bag Fee

If your checked bag weighs more than 50 pounds, it will be subject to an overweight fee. Allegiant has two overweight fee tiers.

For bags weighing between 50 and 70 pounds (23 to 31.8 kilograms), you will be charged an extra $50 overweight fee to check your bag.

If any of your extra bags beyond the first two weigh more than 70 pounds, Allegiant won’t accept them at check-in.

Special Considerations for Military Personnel

To receive the military baggage allowance and special considerations, military personnel must provide proof of active-duty status at the time of check-in.

Booking Changes

Military personnel often travel on short notice and may need to change their travel plans at the last minute. Allegiant Air understands this and offers flexible options to military personnel. The airline allows military personnel to update their travel plans without incurring change fees. Military personnel can also cancel their booking without penalty.

To change or cancel your booking, you are required to contact Allegiant Air.

Military Personnel Spouses and Dependents

Spouses and dependents of active-duty military personnel traveling on orders qualify for the same benefits. However, they must be traveling on the same itinerary as the qualifying military member.

The spouse or dependent will need to present the relevant military ID upon check-in.

Traveling with Pets

Another benefit that you’ll receive as a qualifying active-duty military personnel is that you can travel with one pet in the cabin. Allegiant will waive the $50 pet fee.

Allegiant allows domestic cats and dogs only in the cabin.

At the Airport

To receive the military baggage allowance and special considerations, you’ll have to provide proof of active-duty status at the time of check-in.

Frontier agents will print the boarding pass for active-duty military travelers at no charge. This service normally incurs a $5 fee.

At the gate, military personnel and their qualifying dependents will be able to board early.

Final Thoughts

Allegiant Air offers a substantial baggage allowance and flexible options to active-duty military personnel. These benefits also extend to qualifying spouses and dependents.

The allowance isn’t as generous as some of the legacy carriers (American Airlines, Delta, and United) but, compared to other low-cost carriers, it’s particularly good. For example, some other low-cost carriers don’t extend the benefits to spouses and dependents. You can even bring a pet on board for free.

Remember to always check Allegiant Air’s website or contact their customer service for the latest information on baggage allowances and fees.
